The lantern is durable with a weather- and shatter-resistant exterior. It is powered by eight D-cell batteries (batteries not included; alkaline batteries are recommended) and one set of batteries provides up to 28 hours of light. Plus, bulb replacement is a breeze with the 5237A700.
This lantern rocks! (2007-12-21)
This gives off a lot of light. When I put it on a table with a mirror behind it, it's even better. During a power outage, I can easily read with the amount of light this lantern produces.

This is pretty good! The light is not all that bright but it works well for those times when we need to see what's going on in the barn at night. And it's been great in our recent power outages. I do recommend it.
Battery operated lantern (2007-11-13)
I bought the wrong one...I bought the one that was battery operated but I wanted the one that was recharable. So, I returned it, which, by the way, was so easy to do.
A solid light (2007-07-12)
We took the lantern camping for the first time and beat it around during travel and around the campsite. It performed well (although I still miss the "hiss" from the white gas model). Haven't used it enough to comment on battery life but the light that it generates is excellent.
Arrived broken, bad customer service (2007-06-26)
This lantern was to replace the previous Coleman that died for no reason. This one arrived broken, shedding a faint blue light no brighter than a candle. Coleman material says contact them. They have limited phone hours. The e-mail to customer service went unanswered. I did get through by phone several days later and the nice lady at Coleman did ship a replacement bulb and then everything was fine. They finally answered the e-mail 31 days later and asked that the lantern be shipped back to them. Not even clear who pays return shipping.
